Breakin’ Baseball News

In baseball news so far some wacky, crazy, and funny stuff has happened.

Let’s review starting off with Danny Jansen, who swapped teams mid-game! Former Blue Jays player Danny Jansen was playing a game on June 26 but it got suspended due to rain in the second inning, while Danny was at bat. On July 27, Danny got swapped for minor leaguers Cutter Coffey, Eddinson Paulino, and Gilberto Batista.

On August 26, Jansen continued the game playing for the Boston Red Sox, while Daulton Varsho pinch-hit in his place. After Varsho struck out in the top half of the second inning, Danny Jansen came to bat for the Red Sox in the bottom half of the same inning, hitting a line drive and getting to first base.

In other news, the New York Mets put a purple seat in Citi Field in honor of their unofficial mascot, Grimace. Learn more about why Grimace is a baseball mascot on Baseblog’s first post.  The seat is in Row 6, Seat 12 because Grimace threw the first pitch at a Mets game for his birthday, June 12 (6/12).

While this post, Shohei Othani of the Los Angeles Dodgers joined the 50-50 club, which is 50 homers and 50 stolen bases in a season which no player had ever done before making Shohei one of the best players in baseball history!

This game was against the Miami Marlins and was one of the best-played games ever! Shohei Othani might make it to 60-60 this season. What is even crazier is he was at 48-49, and then he hit 3 homers and stole 2 bases, also being the first person to do that in a game! As of right now he’s at 53-55. But Shohei is now guaranteed to go to Cooperstown! One of the best players ever, maybe even better than Babe Ruth himself!

Also related to Shohei Othani, his dog Decoy threw the first ceremonial pitch by a dog (Shohei Othani’s dog throws first pitch.)

Decoy wore a dog Dodgers jersey with Decoy and #17 on it.

And to wrap up:

  • Bo Bichette’s season is over because he fractured his finger.
  • Look at this long name on a jersey for a Reds player, Christian Encarnacion-Strand, who has the longest name in MLB history!
  • The Orioles wore Braille jerseys.
